How To Obtain A NJ Accident Report, Now Called Crash Report

If the accident was handled by local police, look at the local police website to determine that town's procedures. Then also call that police department because sometimes the information on their website is outdated. 


If an accident was handled by NJ State Police, you can get a New Jersey crash report online or by mail. The process varies depending on whether the crash was on a toll road or non- toll road, and whether it was fatal. 


Online 

Go to njportal.com/njsp/crashreports/ to request an electronic copy of a crash report 


By mail 

Complete a request form and mail it to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority or the relevant police department 

Include a certified check or money order and a self-addressed stamped envelope. 


Fees

Non-toll road and boat crash reports cost $13 

Toll road crash reports cost $5 

Serious/fatal investigation reports, digital media, photographs, and statements cost $20
