NEW NJ LAW REQUIRES EMPLOYERS TO WARN EMPLOYEES ABOUT TRACKING DEVICES IN VEHICLES:

Employers have installed tracking devices in vehicles used by their employees for a good reason: to ensure that employees are where they should be during working hours.

Private-sector employers, on the other hand, must notify employees before using a monitoring device in a vehicle used by an employee, according to a recently enacted law in New Jersey. The cost of the employer's failure to provide this information is significant.

An employer who knowingly uses a tracking device in a vehicle used by an employee without providing written notice to the employee is subject to a civil penalty of not more than $1,000 for the first violation and not more than $2,500.00 for each subsequent violation.
